If your like me and constantly outdoors, then you might need to take some precautions to limit the amount of sun damage that you could potentially acquire during this sunny season.

For starters, sun screen is a no brainer. But its important to try and find one that moisturizes as well. Better yet, choose a daily moisturizer that has a built in sun screen, preferably one with SPF of 15 or higher. Those filter out up to 92% of the harmful UVB rays the sun produces, so you’ll be covered! This will prevent face wrinkle, and uneven burnt skin.

Next, find a protectant for your hair. To keep your haircolor shining and vibrant, you will need one of these. The sun can intensely damage your hair, corrupting its color and texture. Find a conditioner or spray that will limit the amount of sun damage and help keep hair healthy and glowing. If your hair is colored, you especially will need one of these.

Last but not least, purchase a product that will protect your lips. The sun can cause lips to crack and dry, which is uncomfortable as well as unpleasnt. Burts Bees lip balm is highly effective, and will keep lips moist. It also has an SPF of 15, so your lips will not burn or crack. Enjoy the sun, but be sure to take these precautions against it. Happy summer!

Cleansing your face before bed https://www.mycosmeticreview.com/beauty-tips/cleansing-your-face-before-bed/ Wed, 28 Jan 2009 18:17:35 +0000 http://www.mycosmeticreview.com/?p=443 I have asked several older women what is the secret to beautiful healthy skin, and they all agree on one thing and one thing only: “Never, never sleep with makeup”;  and even though cosmetics and beauty products have improved over time it only makes sense to want to remove makeup before going to bed.

Night time is when our bodies regenerate and heal, so why not help this natural cycle by doing the right thing?

When wearing makeup, sometimes is necessary to cleanse using a multi-step process. So start with a makeup remover or cream to disolve as much makeup as possible (avoid the eye area)

Be mindful of the skin around your eyes, as it is especially delicate and can be irritated easily. There are makeup removers specially formulated for this area. I use Neutrogena Oil Free Eye Makeup remover. Damp a cotton ball in the product and gently swipe it around your closed eye. This step is particularly helpful if you wear lots of mascara, waterproof eyeliner and even faux lashes.

Apply Cleanser to the entire face. With the cleanser of your choice massage the product into your skin with an upward and circular motion. Don’t forget your neck and chin.

Last rinse your face and eyes with lukewarm water, but never use HOT water!

Gently pat dry and moisturize with a nightcream. My favorite is Positively Ageless Night Cream with Shiitake Mushrooms by Aveeno, which is rich and it absorbs quickly so you don’t get that feeling of been “buttered up”.

Makeup Tips for Bad Days https://www.mycosmeticreview.com/beauty-tips/makeup-tips-for-bad-days/ Thu, 22 Jan 2009 18:13:02 +0000 http://www.mycosmeticreview.com/?p=424 Having a “bad-beauty day”? don’t worry..you are not alone!

Everyone, even the most beautiful supermodel had the occasional bad day, when her eyes look puffy, her skin looks discolored and the breakouts are so obvious!

Fortunately there are several things we can do to improve this look, so follow this easy steps and see yourself in a whole different light:

Add moisture: When the skin is dehydrated it looks older and less alive, so drink plenty of water and use a rich moisturizer to help plump up the skin and make it look softer and smoother.

Avoid full makeup: let you skin breath! avoid applying makeup that day in an attempt to “cover it up”. Just use a bit of concealer and a tinted moisturizer, or mix your regular moisturizer with a bit of self- tanner.

Curl you eyelashes: this will open up the eyes and make you look less tired, but do not apply lots of eye makeup and stay away from dark colors that can close up the eye and make them look more tired. Stick with light shadow on the lids a little mascara.

Fake a bake: to enliven shallow looking skin apply a light coat of self-tanner, gel or bronzer powder.  Follow with pink blush application. This will give you that healthy look of “rosy cheeks”

Add lip gloss: it will revive a dry, tired-looking mouth. Stick with sheer gloss on a shade same as your natural lip color or add a little pink.

If you still feel like you are not at your best use a large pair of sunglasses and a baseball hat, it works! If you don’t believe me pick up a magazine and look at all the celebrities rocking this look.

Makeup Advice https://www.mycosmeticreview.com/beauty-tips/makeup-advice/ https://www.mycosmeticreview.com/beauty-tips/makeup-advice/#respond Sat, 03 Jan 2009 16:23:37 +0000 http://www.mycosmeticreview.com/?p=300 Sometimes, you can have too much of a good thing..
The simplest, best makeup advice a girl can share is simplicity. Makeup should bring out the essence of your shine and colors. It shouldn’t attract attention just for its own sake, but should interact with your features subtly, unconsciously, weaving a gentle enchantment we may not even be aware of, but we fall under its spell nonetheless. A sophisticated use of cosmetics adds to our appearance and aura without subtracting the essence of our own unique natures. At the same time, makeup should also be used in a way that treats and care for the health of our skin. The more healthy our skin is treated, the more beautiful it will be.

Concealer can be a miracle maker, as any girl who has experienced a sudden breakout before a big night can attest, but it’s easy to get carried away. If you try to cover up too much, you’ll only attract more attention to the blemish, pimple or breakout. A heavy amount of concealer can indicate you have something to hide. It’s better to use sparingly and tastefully, bringing out your essential color in a way that accentuates but doesn’t attract attention. It’s natural to want to cover up the acne while it’s healing, but remember that a little bit of concealer goes a long way. Use it sparingly, blending into the natural colors of your skin and adding to the shine of your complexion.

Most importantly for our skin, we should treat breakouts promptly and rapidly: caring for breakouts through natural salves that work to heal our skin. Jane Iredale Mineral Cosmetics develops a line of skin care makeup that actually medicinally heals your blemishes through natural herbs and minerals, working both as makeup and as a naturally healing salve. It’s a wonderful treatment that’s very effective, both at enhancing  your natural glow and healing your body at the same time!

Our skin is our largest organ of our body. We need to take care of it, whether that means using natural cosmetics   utilizing the best in mineral science to treat the health of our skin, thereby retaining our beauty. The best makeup advice is to subtly use makeup in a way that’s both beautiful and healthy. Let cosmetics add to your appearance without being heavy handed, subtly bringing out your glow until beauty just seems like a natural accentuation of you. In this case less really is more!

Makeup effect: Perfect combinations for Makeup Effect- Our blends of cosmetics are our own art https://www.mycosmeticreview.com/beauty-tips/makeup-effect-perfect-combinations-for-makeup-effect-our-blends-of-cosmetics-are-our-own-art/ Mon, 15 Dec 2008 23:44:13 +0000 http://www.mycosmeticreview.com/?p=211 Makeup is an art. The perfect blush combined with a select mascara brings out a certain style that’s uniquely beautiful, entrancing those around you with all the glimmer of a diamond. Eyeliner entwining with the inner essence of your eyes captivate like beautiful art in a museum, enhancing just the right elements with style and class. All it takes is just the right combination to bring out the inner elemental beauty. Each makeup effect adds its own touch of elegance, its own hint of imagination.

To create a smoky effect, nude and shimmery eye shadow works well at suggesting an alluring stroke of the mysterious, a captivating hint of cool muse. Grey or brown eye shadow on the upper lid emphasizes the character of your eyes, creating a mystifying variance that’s as entrancing as it is captivating. A moist Q-tip is ideal, almost like a paint brush to bring out your highlights with all the control of an artist reproducing beauty.

Another makeup effect that adds a festive sense of fun to the evening is highlighting your lips with bright red lip gloss. Coating your lips with a concealer as a foundation adds vibrancy to the red, making them come alive and lasting longer than a simple application. Once the foundation is set, apply a lip color that’s uniquely perfect to your own lips, applying with a lip brush from the outer corners of the mouth in. Dab with tissues, and apply an extra coat of bright red gloss. The bright gloss adds a sexy element to your natural lip color, irresistibly caressing the corners of your smile.makeup-effect

Nude eye shadow with a hint of gold, combined with a cream based layer to ingrain into your skin, helps to bring out  a natural shiny essence in your skin, softly highlighting its creaminess. A hint of green on the upper lid adds a stylish, festive sense of the holidays, perfect for an evening of Christmas. Working from the inside corner into the middle of the eye brings out a dichotomous beauty that emphasizes the variety of your features.

The right combinations and blends of cosmetics work together to bring out your inner beauty. Sometimes, the best discoveries come through experimenting.  Be bold and creatively imaginative with the possibilities of cosmetics.. combing colors that enhance your inner essence is what the art of cosmetics it all about.  So grab a mirror and your makeup bag and have fun with your colors and blends!

Manicures: A do-it-yourself guide to try at home https://www.mycosmeticreview.com/beauty-tips/manicures-a-do-it-yourself-guide-to-try-at-home/ Sun, 30 Nov 2008 18:04:33 +0000 http://www.mycosmeticreview.com/?p=132 When it comes to getting pampered there is nothing like a manicure!! If you are looking to create a polished, well groomed appearance a  mani is the way to go.  But as good as this might sound there are many of us that feel this is something to be had at a nail salon or Spa.  Unfortunately traveling to a salon, getting a manicure and then waiting for it to dry can take a couple of hours.  And this days not everyone has the time for such luxuries..

Fortunately there is always an option: do it at home.  Now some of you might get overwhelmed at the thought of giving yourself a manicure, and you might think: “there is so many steps involved, so many tools.. and cosmetic products! where do i start?”  It might seem difficult, but trust me..as a do-it-myself kind of gal I am I assure you, there is nothing more pleasant and relaxing than having my nails done at home.  Here are a few things you are going to need to assemble your tool-kit for the perfect manicure:

  • Nail polish remover and cotton balls
  • Nile file (preferably a fine-grained nail file, as this is gentler to your nails)
  • Hand lotion
  • Cuticle oil
  • Birchwood or Orange stick
  • Nailbrush
  • Bowl or warm, soapy water
  • Base coat, Nail color and top coat

Find a time on your day when you won’t be interrupted for at least an hour.  Set up a mood, but playing your favorite music for example and sit comfortably by a table.  Begin by removing any old nail polish with a cotton ball soaked in nail polish remover.  Apply a small amount of cuticle oil to each cuticle to begin to soften them, then clip you nails if necessary and file them to the desired length and shape.  Soak your hands in the soapy water for about 3 minutes. Using the Orange stick gently clean any remaining dirt and push back overgrown cuticles.  Dry you hand with a towel a proceed to apply the base coat, this is a glue like product that will help the polish adhere better to your nails.  Apply the color the same way, let dry for 3 minutes and apply a second coat.  Then clean any excess nail color with an orange stick wrapped in cotton and dipped in nail polish remover, and after your color had dried apply a protective top coat. Massage your hand with your favorite lotion and…you are done!!

A few simple tips to a brighter, whiter smile: https://www.mycosmeticreview.com/beauty-tips/a-few-simple-tips-to-a-brighter-whiter-smile/ Thu, 27 Nov 2008 18:22:45 +0000 http://www.mycosmeticreview.com/?p=104 As time passes fashion trends change and evolve. Yesterday’s beauty standards are very different from today’s and what was considered “hot” back in the day is “so-not” today.

In this times, a beautiful, healthy, white smile is a must.  You don’t want to feel like Austin Powers waking up in the 21st century with his 3 decades ago, 10 shades-darker than modern smile!  Well..you simply don’t have to.  With the advances of oral care you don’t have to live with a coffee or nicotine-stained teeth.

There is a variety of products designed to keep you smile looking fresh without having to give up you love to coffee:  there are whitening strips, whitening toothpastes, mouthwashes and even Whitening gum!

You can also have your cosmetic dentist perform a Teeth Whitening procedure, or go to your local “LVI Smile Dentists” and purchase a package.  These last two are great options, if you can afford them…but they can be very pricey.

Here are a few tips for keeping your smile as whiter as it can be without braking the bank:

-If you are a coffee drinker, try and drink your beverages from a straw:  this will minimize the coffee from becoming in contact with your teeth and stain them

-After flossing dip your toothbrush in baking soda,  then your toothpaste and brush your teeth as usual.  The baking soda acts a the paste the dentist uses to clean your teeth.  Do this up to twice a week.

-Try this “At home” whitening paste: 1/2 tablespoon of  baking soda, 1 strawberry.  In a small bowl mash the strawberry and mix it with the baking soda. With an old toothbrush, spread this paste on your teeth and leave it for 5 minutes. Brush your teeth as usual.  This can be done  up to once a week!

Enjoy your brighter, whiter smile!!

]]> Faux Eyelashes: the quickest way to “glam up” https://www.mycosmeticreview.com/beauty-tips/faux-eyelashes-the-quickest-way-to-glam-up/ Wed, 26 Nov 2008 17:20:10 +0000 http://www.mycosmeticreview.com/?p=97 I remember going to the beauty supply store with my mother, and coming across false lashes under a glass counter. My mom said “I remember wearing this when I was younger, back in the 70’s”. My response was “ewww, how could you have wore those things?”
Little did I know that ,as everything else in fashion, they would come back in style!!
False lashes, also known as “Faux lashes” and “Fake eyelashes” were worn by every Hollywood starlet at a point in time.
Today, most of us ladies rely on mascara to pump our natural lashes and give our eyes a more defined and feminine look.
But sometimes ,when we want that Old Hollywood glamour, let say a night out in the town or a special occasion such as a wedding, we rely on Fauxs..
As a former model, I first came across them at a photo shoot, when the makeup artist put them on my eyes as part of the look he was going for..a very very glamorous look!!
I must say that it takes a little getting use to..sort of when you try contact lenses for the first time. But after seen how beautiful and sexy they make me feel I decided to make them a part of my makeup repertoire.

These days you can find them everywhere: in the beauty aisle of drugstores, supermarkets, and even Walmart and Target offer a good variety of brands, shapes and colors to suit your style. And they are a makeup artist must-have.
If you have never try them, here are a few helpful tips:

You will need: a pair of false eyelashes of your choice, eyelash glue (they often come togheter on a starter pack), tweezers and liquid eyeliner.
Make sure your lashes are makeup free and clean. With tweezers, grab a lash and dub a little glue along the trip’s base, then wait about 20 seconds for the glue to thicken.
With your eye close position the faux lash as close to the root of your own lashes and press, keep doing this for about 30 more seconds. To conceal the seam, run a super thin line of liquid liner over their base (If you’re going for a less natural look make the line thicker). To finish up brush on a coat of mascara on your lashes to blend them in, and you are done!!
If you can’t seem to get it right the few first attempts ,don’t get frustrated, like everything else this will take a little practice.

Tanning: Tanning the face or bronzers? https://www.mycosmeticreview.com/beauty-tips/tanning-tanning-the-face-or-bronzers/ Mon, 24 Nov 2008 16:09:25 +0000 http://www.mycosmeticreview.com/?p=83

Have you ever asked yourself if when you tan you should tan your face as well?

Several years ago someone I knew told me she “would never tan her face”,and cover it with a towel while in the tanning booth.  As an avid tanner myself I would have never considered covering my face! At that moment a dozen questions popped into my head: how about the difference of color between my face and body?? and that beautiful bronze look I live for? When I asked her why..she simply said “I wouldn’t want to turn into a raising at the age of 40!” And that’s when it hit me: do I want to end up like those Californian women that tanned all throughout the 80’s without protecting the skin and they ended up with that “raising look”? I decided then that i would not sacrifice the freshness of my skin just for a nice tan color, after all a girl like me outta have options!

But what happens when you go to the tanning salon?

Well..I cover my face with a towel, and only allow 3 or 4 minutes of face tanning a month to even the color out just a little. That feels like a perfect balance between 2 extremes!

Stars like Jennifer Lopez avoid the sun at at any any price, as if by doing so she can preserve the youthful and fresh look of the skin for years to come. And there is nothing but truth to this belief, because as we all know sun and UV ray exposure can age and dry the skin, making it prone to wrinkles and premature aging.

Large hats, sunglasses and high factor sunscreens are some ways to avoid the sun rays while been outdoors.

Now you may ask yourself: what about that glowing sun-kissed look? How do I get it? Well..bronzer is the way to go.

They come in different forms, such as lotion, press powder, loose powder, etc..and your choices are infinite.  If you have a favorite brand of cosmetics then check out their bronzers or self tanners, and their different shades. I personally like to try a different brand and experiment a little.  So whether you like to be a sun tanned babe all year long or just wanna have that extra glow during the summer months, protecting your skin form harmful rays is the way to go!!
